Electrolysis Ethics

What Are Electrolysis Ethics?

Electrolysis ethics is a concept that was introduced to me by the electrologist who worked on me more than a decade ago. Until I discovered Sarah I had never had a good electrolysis treatment. I had been to a string of people who took my money, re-used probes, lied to me and just did shoddy work. Sarah told me that when she treated a hair it did not come back (exact words were “95/100 hairs will not return”). I asked her what the difference was between her and everyone else. In one word, Sarah replied, “Ethics.”

To me Electrolysis Ethics means treating hair properly because you know you can. It means working as efficiently as possible and being conscientious about cleanliness, hygiene and customer service. Electrolysis seems like such a simple process but it really does take hundreds and hundreds of hours of practice on yourself and others to get good at it. Self-discipline and training are also part of electrolysis ethics. You have to be prepared for your clients or you are not an ethical electrologist.

Electrolysis Ethics is not something that can be regulated.

Electrolysis regulation generally doesn’t address the effectiveness of electrolysis treatments. I just don’t understand this. The legislation deals with hygiene and bookkeeping but I think these would be non-issues if Electrolysis Ethics was the framework used for establishing rules of conduct. Why legislate the use of an ultra-sonic to clean tweezers while making no mention of an acceptable level of treatment success? Ultra-sonics aren’t very useful by the way, they are very good for cleaning jewellery but not the best way to remove debris from tweezers.

Electrolysis Ethics means holding yourself to the highest standard you can.

I don’t re-use probes because probes often get bent, dirty and dull once they’ve been used for a few hours. My work is easier if I just discard that $1.50 probe and start a new one. It’s just not practical to cut corners like that. That’s where the ethics comes in. I don’t discard probes because I’m required to, I discard probes because that’s simply the better way to do business!

The better way to do business when it comes to electrolysis is often the simplest way as well. I’ve never had to dodge questions about why a treatment isn’t working or blame anyone for their stubborn hair that resists treatment. I feel confident telling everyone that I can help them lose their unwanted hair in a relatively short time.

And that is why my new nom de plume is…The Ethical Electrologist.
