Prepare Your Skin For Electrolysis

Why You Should Prepare Your Skin For Electrolysis

The biggest barrier to my ability to provide an efficient electrolysis service is, in my opinion, the state of the client’s skin. Nothing inhibits entry into a hair follicle more than dried up dead skin and sebum. Taking time to clear away the debris blocking entry to a follicle means less time is spent on actual hair removal and that isn’t good for either you or me.

The skin’s ability to rejuvenate itself slows down with age and if the dead skin remains on the surface of the skin not only will you have a dull complexion but these pieces of dead skin often cling to the hair on the face. It makes it very difficult to find the insertion point if it’s plugged, so I have to use tweezers to remove the skin to find the entry to the hair follicle. On the average chin or neck, this can happen a dozens or more times during the appointment. We can easily lose 8-10 minutes of hair removal time if your skin isn’t prepped right.

How To Prepare Your Skin For Electrolysis

Exfoliating with a facial scrub is an enormous help in order to prepare your skin for electrolysis. Exfoliating removes any dead skin or leftover makeup that can obscure the actual hair and/or the entry to the follicle.  I prefer a client uses a proper exfoliating product, rather than trying to exfoliate with a washcloth or oatmeal or any alternative remedies.

Aside from exfoliation, generally the things that make your body healthy overall will help with your electrolysis treatment and healing. If you have a healthy diet, drink enough water and in the days before your treatment avoid, if possible, caffeine and cigarettes, your skin should be top condition for your electrologist.

And don’t forget to exfoliate!
