Vellus Hair And Electrolysis
Fine hair covers our face and body. This shallow-rooted, slow-growing hair is known as vellus hair. Many clients are mortified to discover noticeable peach fuzz on their cheeks, neck and jawline in certain lights. I can treat this hair with electrolysis because of the quality of magnification equipment I use.
Here is an example of vellus hair on a woman’s cheeks:
The client in the image above did not treat her peach fuzz because it did not trouble her. Many women are, however, bothered by this type of fine fuzz. Reducing the density is manageable in a reasonable period of time. A lot of my clients are content with a reduction and then doing occasional touch-ups until the rest of the vellus hair is eradicated.
Dermaplaning is a short term solution to dealing with the light and fluffy fuzz on your face. I recommend electrolysis to many clients to deal with the vellus hair once and for all. Maybe you can pull off sideburns in your early 20s but, trust me, once you hit your 40s any hair on your face is very aging.
Most white women don’t have this type of growth on their face until perimenopause. It is very common though for black and brown women of all ages to have long dark hair across their face. Often it is not noticeable until we’ve treated the coarse hair. Then what I call the undergrowth emerges. Hairs that are very slow growing and unnoticeable until you stop shaving completely.
Prepare for a shock when you see how long these hairs can grow! I call them the foot-longs! This hair is often the result of laser induced hair growth but sometimes it’s just plain bad luck.
Either way, not to worry, electrolysis can eradicate your coarse hair, vellus hair and everything in between.
