Can Electrolysis Fail – What To Do If Electrolysis Treatment Fails?

Can Electrolysis Fail?

On a large scale, I would say no, electrolysis does not fail provided you have an electrologist who is doing good work (ie. making proper insertions and delivering a healthy dose of current).
Many clients go through a phase where they think electrolysis is not working. It usually happens around the 6 month mark when it is clear to me we have made great progress but clients still see new growth coming in and wrongly assume it’s “regrowth”. Electrolysis is not a quick fix and many people become disillusioned when they still see hair after a few months. I explain that for every hair you see on the surface of the skin, there are a handful beneath the skin waiting to come up. Hair growth cycles are not synchronized to your electrolysis treatment schedule so although you may be coming regularly for appointments your hair comes in on its own time. 🙂

Why Does Electrolysis Fail?

Electrolysis can be difficult for clients who’ve spent many years waxing, tweezing and ripping out their hair with their fingers. The chin, neck and bikini line are the most common places the hair can become distorted after years of haphazard hair removal. I don’t believe that most people have distorted follicles but some people really have difficult hair to treat. The skin has suffered from years of abuse, there are many ingrowns and the hairs are growing every which way which can make insertions more difficult than usual.

If you see electrolysis fail on a large scale (that is, you’re having treatments for a year or many years and not seeing results) then you need to re-evaulate your electrologist’s methods and perhaps search for someone with a better success rate. If you’re just researching electrolysis and worried that it won’t work for you, rest assured that it is the tried-and-true method of permanent hair removal for over 100 years.

P.SMy clients see results within a month to six weeks or after 3-5 treatment hours. This estimate is for average female facial hair growth or a small area like underarms or tummy.
